CA.LoL in Go4LoL November Monthly Finals

December 8th, 2012

A few days ago we announced that the compLexity Academy is expanding into League of Legends with the acquisition of team Transcendence (now known as CA.LoL). While the name may be new, the CA.LoL roster has been training hard as a team for a long while. In fact, CA.LoL has qualified for the Go4LoL November Monthly Finals thanks to several successful weekly tournaments. Out of the last five Go4LoL weeklys, CA.LoL has achieved two first places finishes, a second place, and a third place finish.

Kicking off today at 9:00PM EST, the Go4LoL November Monthly Finals will see CA.LoL take on Team Temporary. Unfortunately there is no information on whether or not a stream will be up. The best way to stay up to date on the Finals is to keep an eye on the official compLexity Twitter @compLexityLive.

compLexity Academy Adds League of Legends

December 6th, 2012

Today Complexity Gaming is pleased to announce the expansion of the compLexity Academy (“CA”) into League of Legends.

Since May of 2011 the compLexity Academy has been devoted to finding and nurturing developing talent in Blizzard’s StarCraft 2 title. Today’s expansion marks the first time we have reached out to another community in hopes of supporting a new group of gamers.

“League of Legends is quite simply a juggernaut eSports title,” said Jason Lake, Founder and CEO of Complexity Gaming. “Riot’s support of the game and massive global interest have created an exciting community that we are please to support. Often the majority of fan focus is on the premier teams but no competitive game can survive without the support of developing players. We hope and believe the compLexity Academy can contribute to that effort in a meaningful way.”

Effective immediately, CA will support the team previously known as Transcendence. The team will be managed by Michael “Twixz” Shane, provided with professional gaming gear from sponsors such as Creative Sound Blaster, and developed with the end goal being a place in Riot’s upcoming seasons.

The new CA.LoL squad is as follows:

  • Chase “chaseonfireee’ Cunningham
  • Evan “The Cpt America” Seale
  • Kevin “Ki11Face’ Behnaz
  • James “Raiynz” Lee
  • Solomon “Cheezycookie” Davidsohn
  • Cam “Syykez” Merrill

Below is an interview Jason Lake gave with MOBAFire during IPL5 which talks about the addition of League of Legends, as well as what he expects to see in the future of MOBA competition.

Creative Challenges All to Enter the Sound Blaster Heroes League

December 4th, 2012

Milpitas, CA Dec. 4, 2012 – Creative Technology Ltd today announced the Sound Blaster® Heroes League, combining a nine-week Heroes of Newerth (HoN) gaming competition with the legendary audio performance of Sound Blaster sound cards and gaming headsets. Creative has joined forces with S2, publisher of Heroes of Newerth, to host the competition offering US$30,000 in cash and US$10,000 in prizes. Unlimited open bracket play runs from December 2012 through January 2013.

The Sound Blaster Heroes League is open to anyone who downloads HoN, with entries open on November 28, 2012 on soundblaster.com. For eight consecutive weeks, five-person teams will compete in Heroes of Newerth open bracket league play, and each week one amateur team will win a spot in the league finals. Concurrent with amateur play, each week a professional gaming team will be announced as part of the Sound Blaster Heroes League. In the ninth week, eight amateur and the eight professional teams will advance to the finals to compete for cash and prizes.

HoN is a wildly popular free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux. Pitting the Legion against the Hellbourne, HoN positions teams of five on opposite sides of a map, with each team defending its own towers from attack. Players control one of 111 heroes, with each hero having four abilities that may be acquired and upgraded while the hero gains experience. Players are rewarded with gold, which they can use to purchase items that increase their hero’s power. The team that reaches the base of the opponent and destroys their primary structure is the winner.

Sound Blaster audio provides a compelling audio experience for both listening and voice communications in HoN gameplay. Creative’s proprietary Sound Blaster CrystalVoice™ suite of voice communications enhancements enables players to enjoy the competitive advantage of hearing each other precisely and clearly, a key weapon for success in the highly competitive team gaming environment where communicating is fundamental to winning.

“We’re excited to team up with S2 to launch the Sound Blaster Heroes League, expanding beyond our success in gaming tournaments to express our commitment to the gaming community on a higher level, with the formation of a league and essentially a full eSports season of gaming,” said Ryan Schlieper, product marketing manager for audio and gaming at Creative.

“We are very excited for the Sound Blaster Heroes League,” said S2 Games Commissioner of eSports Sam Braithwaite. “The format for the league is one of my personal favorites and it compliments HoN Tour very well. Amateur and pro players alike are going to have a very action packed couple of months!”

“We’re leveraging our great relationship with Team CompLexity professional gamers to launch the Sound Blaster Heroes League,” continued Ryan Schlieper of Creative. “Team CompLexity are true experts at executing online eSports competition and of course it only adds to the excitement that they have one of the best HoN teams on the planet in their stable of cyberathletes.”

“We are thrilled to be involved with two phenomenal companies and especially being tied to the launch of these great new products. We are also so excited to be bringing such a great event to the Heroes of Newerth Community. This is one of the most passionate groups of gamers that we have ever had the pleasure to work with,” said Jason Bass COO compLexity Gaming.

The Heroes of Sound Blaster League celebrates the launch of the Sound Blaster Z-Series high-performance sound cards and the Sound Blaster Tactic3D Rage gaming headsets. Both products were unveiled for the first time at Gamescom 2012 and are shipping in time for the 2012 holiday season. Featuring Creative’s proprietary SBX ProStudio™ and Crystal Voice technologies, the new Sound Blaster products boast cutting-edge designs and industry-leading performance capabilities.

compLexity SC2 @ IPL5 Preview

by Alex “Yuenanimous” Yue

Tomorrow marks the start of the IGN Pro League’s third LAN event, IPL 5. With players flying in from all around the globe to take a shot at the $100,000 prize pool, you can be sure that compLexity will be there in full force. Being one of the last major tournaments of 2012, compLexity SC2 is determined to make IPL 5 a tournament to remember.

Today TriMaster, Heart, GanZi, Sasquatch, and Goswser will be flying out to The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas and resting up before the event. Tomorrow they will be taking on the best StarCraft II players around. To get ready for kick off tomorrow, here’s a preview of what compLexity is bringing to IPL 5.

Kim “GanZi” Dong Ju

When GanZi isn’t entertaining fans with his incredible dance moves he’s hard at work developing and refining his play. Since his memorable performance at the Lone Star Clash 2, GanZi has been living at the compLexity Gamma Gamers House with his teammates, preparing for IPL 5. Over the course of this year, GanZi has managed to place in the top 10 at several of his previous events, but the first place prize has consistently eluded him. This may be his chance to take the gold.

Joshua “TriMaster” Niven

Ever the underdog but never completely counted out, TriMaster is a player who has made quite a name for himself by upsetting the best of players. Earlier this year he was able to take out MarineKingPrime at the MLG Summer Championship, a feat that pretty much everyone thought was impossible. Tomorrow, TriMaster will look to put up another upset as he takes on his former teammate NaNiwa, widely considered to be one of the best Protoss players around. For those who know TriMaster and know how much work he has been putting into the game, we fully expect him to make a major splash at IPL 5.

Michael “Goswser” Dobler

The first player from the compLexity Academy to get promoted to coL.SC2, Goswser is another player known for his upsets. Originally making a name for himself at MLG Orlando 2011 by taking out the GSL champion Polt, Goswser is ready to be in the limelight again. He’s been working hard at the Gamma Gamers House, refining his play to get ready for IPL 5. Unfortunately Goswser is matched up against his teammate GanZi in the first round. It’s always difficult have a teamkill in a tournament, but it’s inevitable. The only comforting thought about this match is that the spectators will be in for quite the treat. Expect to see some crazy mindgames as both players try to psych each other out with fake builds and elaborate cheeses. This will be a match you don’t want to miss.

Gage “Sasquatch” DuBose

Another player who started out on the compLexity Academy, Sasquatch is a stellar Zerg who seemed to come out of nowhere. Sasquatch’s first major appearance was in the MLG Spring Championships and WCS US Nationals, where he took out several well known players, such as Machine, YaTa, and HayprO. Sasquatch’s real breakout performance, however, was at the 2012 MLG Summer Championship. There he went on to earn the second-highest foreigner placement and the MLG Breakout Player award. This weekend Sasquatch is looking to make an even bigger name for himself as he’ll be taking on GSL champion Seed in the first round.

Kim “Heart” Min Hyuk

Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Heart will do anything to win. First breaking into the scene with a notably “cheesy” style, Heart was taking out amazing players with elaborate all-ins. Since then, Heart has switched up his style showing very strong macro games in both the GSL and tournaments around the globe. Because of this new change in play style Heart is an even more ruthless player, able to take wins through cheeses or long games. He’s now more unpredictable, something that’s sure to make his opponents sweat.

Two players will be picked up from a recruitment tournament scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 22nd. The tournament will follow the standard best of three, single elimination format. The map pool will consist of:

  • MLG Antiga Shipyard
  • MLG ESV Cloud Kingdom
  • MLG Daybreak
  • MLG Entombed Valley
  • MLG Metropolis
  • MLG Ohana
  • MLG Tal’Darim Altar

The other two players will be chosen by Academy commissioner Michael “Twixz” Shane based on their application videos. Your application video should consists of a short introduction followed by answers to the follow questions:

  • What are your thoughts on Heart of the Swarm?
  • What is your strongest matchup, do you have a matchup you are currently struggling with?
  • How did you get into Starcraft2, what drew you into and what has kept you playing?

Applications can be emailed to Academy Commissioner Michael “Twixz” Shane at: [email protected]. Please make sure that your applications are in by December 14th. Any submissions after the 14th will be disregarded.

If you are accepted into The Academy there are several perks. You will also have the opportunity to win trips to MLG events, play in Academy sanctioned events (showmatches), and have the opportunity to stay at the compLexity Gamma Gamers House in Houston, Texas.
