coL.Academy Defeats vVv Gaming 3-1 – ESEA

May 22nd, 2012

Tonight the compLexity Academy went head to head versus vVv Gaming in the ESEA. After a hard loss versus Visionary Gaming, the Academy was eager to get a win on the board and start generating some momentum. Good thing our boys brought their A game and were able to beat vVv with a score of 3-1.

  • Goswser vs Rocker – 0-2
  • Boonrebu vs Glon – 2-0
  • Sasquatch vs Seohyeon – 2-0
  • Fuzzy vs Toxsik – 2-1

With this win The Academy now has a score of 3-4 for the ESEA season. While it may not be first place in the league, the team’s current standing makes the playoffs within grasp, so long as they keep winning. Hopefully this win will generate enough momentum so that they can make it to the playoffs.

Sunday Night BarCraft After MLG Anaheim

May 21st, 2012

LOS ANGELES, CA – MAY 21st, 2012 – Today, Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid, compLexity, and Team Dignitas, four of the eSports industry’s finest professional teams and communities, are excited to announce a community party on the night of Sunday, June 10th, entitled “Sunday Night BarCraft.”  The party, sponsored by Monster Energy, Twitch.TV, Alienware, and Kingston HyperX, will be held in the Ballroom of the Hilton Anaheim Hotel (less than a minute’s walk away from the Anaheim Convention Center).  It will begin at 8:30pm, after the MLG Anaheim event’s conclusion, and it will be free of charge and open to all ages.

Fans and Community members alike can expect appearances from their favorite EG, Liquid, coL, and dignitas pro players, as well as other eSports broadcasters and celebrities such as djWHEAT, SirScoots, and Slasher. For a full list of player and celebrity appearances, please see the event’s flyer (above). In addition to those listed, there will also be some very special, secret guest appearances from other eSports celebrities not included on the flyer.

Players and celebrities will be available for pictures and autograph signings from 8:30-10pm, during which time there will also be a player/celebrity panel and Q&A on the event’s main stage. From 10-11, we’ll have pro player showmatches and fan-to-pro challenges, live on stage, which means that anyone attending has the chance to be picked out of the crowd and brought up on stage to play with (and/or against) his or her favorite player. We’ll close the event with a live episode of Live on Three from 11pm-12am, and there will be plenty of giveaways from the party’s sponsors throughout the night, including a brand new Gaming Notebook from Alienware!

A full summary of the party’s schedule and venue information can also be found in the flyer (above). We hope you’ll all join us for what will almost certainly be the largest, awesomest eSports after-party the community’s seen to date. And really, since the trip from the Anaheim Convention Center to the Hilton will take you approximately two minutes on foot, if you’re going to MLG Anaheim, you have no excuse not to come! For those of you who can’t make it, though, the party’s main stage will be streamed live on Twitch.TV/OneMoreGameTV, where you’ll still be able to catch the player/celebrity panels, showmatches, fan-to-pro challenges, and the live episode of Live on Three.

So, whether online or in person, make sure you join us on Sunday, June 10th at 8:30pm! We all look forward to seeing you there. Make sure you arrive early – the first 1,000 attendees will receive a limited edition Sunday Night BarCraft autograph card (preview below), featuring the EG, dignitas, coL, and Liquid logos, which you can use to collect the signatures of your favorite pro players and eSports celebrities!

Meet the Academy: Lucas “boonrebu” Chen

May 20th, 2012

For the fourth part of our “Meet The Academy” series, Academy commissioner Michael “Twixz” Shane sat down with Lucas “boonrebu” Chen. Being one of our newest members, we wanted to give Lucas the chance get his name out in the community and let people get to know one of our rising stars.

Hey Lucas first off welcome to compLexity and why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?

Hi! Well, I’m a college freshman at Cornell University studying Engineering. When I’m not studying I’m working on my StarCraft II game trying to get to the next level.

How long have you been playing SC2 and where do you see yourself in the future?

I’ve been playing SC2 since the Beta but very on and off. It wasn’t until only very recently that I started to take the game a bit more seriously. I was originally a Protoss player but just switched to Terran this January. Starcraft is such a volatile game so it’s impossible to see where I might be in the future but, hopefully, I aim to be one of the premier North American players.

You will be in Anaheim already thanks to the WCS qualifiers, but how do you think you will fair in booth the Blizzard event and MLG itself?

I’m really excited but also nervous. It will be my first live event so I don’t know how my nerves will come in to play. Also I won’t be going in to it with as much practice as I would like, as I still need to deal with college finals before I can go back to seriously playing. I think I have the potential to cause some serious upsets, but of course that’s with a bit of luck.

Are you excited to test out the upcoming Heart of the Swarm expansion at Anaheim?

I was never one to really care that much about testing out games before they’re released or anything. What I’m more excited for is the fact that there are gonna be the legendary Brood War progamers attending.

Once again thanks for your time and welcome to the family, any last words?

I just wanna thank compLexity for this opportunity to represent them and I hope to show some good results.

Once again, I want to thank Lucas for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk with us about The Academy. We expect big things from him and are looking forward to seeing him develop into star player we know he will be.

PG2: coL.Ganzi vs. TLO – NASL

May 18th, 2012

Tonight coL.SC2’s Ganzi will be playing TLO from Team Litquid in week 6 of the North American Star League. Kicking off at 10:00pm EST, the best of three between these two amazing players will start out on Odyssey. After the first map the loser will get to pick from the map pool (winner gets one veto).

Currently Ganzi is sitting in fourth place in his division with a score of 3-2. After losing to both Huk and Vibe in weeks 3 and 4, things were looking rough for Ganzi. TLO on the other hand is right on Ganzi’s heels in fifth place with a record of 2-2.  Both players are hungry to climb to the top of their division, so you won’t want to miss tonight’s game.
