StarCraft II Patch 1.4.2 Live

November 8th, 2011

Today as players launched StarCraft II they were greeted by the announcement that Patch 1.4.2 has gone live. Carrying some major balance changes, the patch is sure to please Protoss players who have recently been showing some poor results in major tournaments.

The major balance changes include:

PROTOSS:
Forge

  • The cost of Upgrade Shields Level 1 has been decreased to 150/150, down from 200/200
  • The cost of Upgrade Shields Level 2 has been decreased to 225/225, down from 300/300
  • The cost of Upgrade Shields Level 3 has been decreased to 300/300, down from 400/400
  • The cost of Upgrade Ground Weapons Level 2 has been decreased to 150/150, down from 175/175
  • The cost of Upgrade Ground Weapons Level 3 has been decreased to 200/200, down from 250/250
  • The cost of Upgrade Ground Armor Level 2 has been decreased to 150/150, down from 175/175
  • The cost of Upgrade Ground Armor Level 3 has been decreased to 200/200, down from 250/250

TERRAN
Ghost

  • EMP radius has been decreased from 2 to 1.5

There are also a few bug fixes and some other changes included in this patch. These changes are:

General:

  • “Alert Fade” under Sound Options has been renamed to Game Volume During Alerts. Its tooltips have also been changed for clarification.
  • The fade-in for game sound during alerts changed from .5 seconds to 2 seconds.
  • Play-Time Schedule under Parental Controls now applies World of Warcraft settings to StarCraft II

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a truncation on specific resolution if the current and maximum supplies are 3 digits.
  • Fixed an issue which prevented footprints from being edited in the Footprint Editor.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the game to have missing icons and images on low end graphics cards.

The reduced cost of Protoss upgrades should help Protoss players crush the common Terran “bio ball” that has been so troublesome as of late. Add in the reduced EMP radius and those late game engagements won’t seem so one sided.

What do you guys think of this patch? Was the EMP nerf really needed? What about the whole upgrade situation? Do you think the reduced cost will make that much of a difference? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below.

Goswser Takes 2nd in the Playhem $75 Daily

November 5th, 2011

Last night in the Playhem $75 Daily coL.Academy member Goswser made quite a big splash, taking second place in tournament. As if getting second place wasn’t enough, Goswser had to take down the American Terran RuFF, the Grandmaster Protoss PswBoSs and top Korean player coLMVPTAiLS. Ultimately Goswser fell to the European Zerg player PeGaSuS in the finals, earning him second place and $20.

Once that Playhem $75 Daily was over, Goswser participated in Thundertoss’s Top200 King of the Hill where he went 5-0 taking down another top Korean player, FnaticMSI.Rain. For that stellar run Goswser earned another $20.

Defeating both coLMVPTAiLS and FnaticMSI.Rain in one night shows just how much potential Goswser and the rest of the coL Academy have. With continued training and hard work there’s no question that Goswser and the other members of the coL Academy can reach the highest levels of success. We at the compLexiy Academy want to congratulate Goswser for such an amazing run.

coL.Academy vs. vVv Gaming – ESEA

November 4th, 2011

Last night the compLexity Academy had their second ESEA match and, despite their best efforts, things just didn’t work out as planned. It was a rough match against vVv Gaming with a final score of 0-4.

The match-ups were:

 Goswser vs Titan 0-2
 Gensulitor vs Ruff 0-2
 Nineteen vs  Hasuu 1-2
 Brobocop vs Rocker 1-2

While we’re not in the business of making excuses here in the compLexity Academy, it should be said that Goswser and Gensulitor played mirror matches which happen to be their least favorite. Keeping that in mind, our boys now have a clear idea of what they need to work on. A loss like this is just the kind of thing to help motivate the members of the Academy to practice even harder. With a new focus on the specific aspects of their play that need working on, the compLexity Academy is looking to come out refreshed and renewed on Tuesday night when they take on team Nightmares.
