coL.CC @ Super Battle Opera 2011

September 16th, 2011

This weekend compLexity Cross Counter will be one of the teams representing the United States in the Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition tournament at Super Battle Opera 2011. The team of Mike Ross and Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez will have their work cut out for them as they take on the best Street Fighter players from around the world.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with SBO, it will follow the standard 2 vs. 2 seen in the qualifiers.

In order to watch SBO 2011, you’re going to need to jump through a couple of hoops. The stream will be pay-per-view (costing about $19.50), and to make matters more complicated, the website you need to make the purchase through is in Japanese. Luckily the good folks over at iplaywinner.com wrote up a guide that should help you purchase access to the stream regardless of language barriers.

DRG Wins Dreamhack Valencia Invitational!

September 16th, 2011

Update: Congratulations to coL.MVP DRG, the winner of Dreamhack Valencia Invitational. DRG managed to take down some of the world’s best on his way to the championship. Congratulations!

Tomorrow marks the start of the fourth event in DreamHack’s Sapphire AMD Championship, the Valencia Invitational. Eight of the best StarCraft II players from around the globe have been invited to duke it out for the 100 000 SEK prize purse plus a spot in the Grand Finals at DreamHack Winter 2011.

coL.MVP DongRaeGu is one of the eight invited players. He will be facing off against the Spanish Terran and former WC3 pro LucifroN from the team Fnatic. DRG will have his work cut out for him considering that the Valencia Invitational is a single elemination tournament, meaning that if you lose one match (two sets in a best-of-3) you’re out of it completely.

The other invited played include: HuK, Thorzain, Hero, IdrA, Rain and Naniwa.

Keep an eye on this post as the compLexity staff will be updating it all day with match results as well as any other media from the event. DreamHack Valencia kicks off at 9:00 AM EST and will span both Saturday and Sunday.

MLG Releases Infograph Detailing Raleigh SC2 Statistics

September 15th, 2011

Today MajorLeagueGaming released a cool little infograph detailing the StarCraft II statistics from their MLG Raleigh event.

As you probably guessed Terran was the most played race, however not by that big of a margin. Only 36% of the players were Terran, closely followed by 35% Protoss.

Another cool little factoid is that Shakuras Plateau was the most popular map with 122 games played on it. Shattered Temple came in at a close second with 120 games played. I was a little surprised that the popular GSL map Dual Sight was picked the least. I would have expected that ICCup TestBug would have been the least popular, however that might be because I don’t really follow the ICCup circuit.

One fact worth mentioning is that coL.MVP DongRaeGu had the highest APM of all the players clocking in at an astounding 274 actions per minute. The next closest player was, unsurprisingly, the Tornado Terran oGs.Nada with 270 APM.

Personally I love these infographs and I hope that MLG keeps releasing them after every event. They provide a little insight to the subtleties of competitive StarCraft II.
