compLexity & Eafra Part Ways

August 18th, 2011

It is with great sadness that today we announce the departure of our good friend and FIFA star, Yfran “Eafra” Garcia. Yfran will be returning to the European FIFA community and his FIFA roots in order to make a competitive push in late 2011 and early 2012.

Eafra had this to say about his departure:

I joined compLexity at the beginning of 2009 and I have nothing but great things to say about the organization. I am still and will forever be a fan of compLexity – especially the management and staff, but I want to make a competitive push in FIFA starting in late September and training with Euro teams will help me do so. I have strayed from the habits that has taken me to the top in the past and although compLexity did everything it possibly could for me, and catered to all of my needs, I need to get back to the Euro community I cherished so much before the demise of the CGS. I think what I will miss the most about the organization is my interaction with Creative.

compLexity is so lucky to have them as a sponsor and I truly wish the best for both parties. Thanks for everything compLexity and Creative – I look forward to seeing what’s in-store for 2012.

Best of luck!

Yfran “Eafra” Garcia

We’d like to wish the best of luck to Yfran in everything he does!

Interview with Lizzuma Post-MLG Raleigh Qualifier Win

August 17th, 2011

Lizzuma has continued to dominate the academy by never losing a tournament. He has definitely proved his worth and his next big break through would be to place well at an MLG event. Here is an interview with Lizzuma after winning the MLG Raleigh compLexity Academy Qualifier.

You continue to dominate the compLexity Academy. You have not lost one tournament at this point in your time with the Academy. Why are the other Academy players having so much trouble taking you down?

I think the answer revolves around my style. I mostly play a huge macro style. My practice time is a lot more efficient, because in practice you usually end up playing macro games. I’m really confident in the late game in all 3 matchups. Lately, I have been practicing a lot on defending early cheese to make sure I always survive until later on. This gives me a huge advantage of some of the players who focus more on the early and mid games. I also think my ability to mix in all ins to my play makes my play really strong.

You faced Cheech in the finals, and he ended up taking a series off of you. You showed great resilience by taking the next series off of him and being crowned victor of the tournament. What was your thought process after dropping the first series?

I wasn’t too worried. After taking the first game pretty easily, I knew I could win the macro game. Game 2 I went for a 2 rax build which is pretty much a cheese. I had to transition into bio, which I never practice. Game 3 he just prepared a really strong aggressive build which I wasn’t ready for. He played well, but I decided to go back to playing safe and solid in the second series. Testbug also really helped to shut down his early reaper player, as there is only one place to jump into the main.

From the first tournament to this tournament, do you feel as if you have improved and developed as a player?

I always feel like I’m improving. I really hope to continue getting more practice time in though and always get better. I have really high goals.

In MLG Anaheim, your result seemed to actually be worse than your result in Columbus. Did you think the open bracket was harder than in Columbus or do you think it was a personal mistake? If it was your own mistake what are you going to do to fix it for MLG Raleigh?

The open bracket was harder. I ran into Inka, who can be very strong, and I wasn’t quite as comfortable in my TvP as I am right now. I also was really uncomfortable with the keyboard I brought, as I never really practice on it. My control suffered a lot from that. This time I’m going to be prepared with a better keyboard with way more practice on it, and I’m also going to spend a lot more time familiarizing myself with all 3 matchups.

What can the fans expect from you as far as results go in MLG Raleigh?

Expect much better results than I showed in Anaheim, and hopefully more like how I performed in Columbus =)

Do you have any shoutouts?

I’d like to thank compLexity for again giving me the opportunity to compete, and all my practice partners in coL and the Academy.

I would like to thank Lizzuma for taking the time to interview with me. He has shown that he is definitely a top prospect for NA Starcraft II, and is a forced to be reckoned with. Be sure to follow Lizzuma through MLG Raleigh and keep it locked to the compLexity website for your chance to join the compLexity Academy!

Drewbie to Korea

August 16th, 2011

Today The Syndicate is pleased to announce that our partnership with Team MvP has resulted in the opportunity for Andrew “drewbie” Moysey to travel to Korea to train for nearly six weeks leading up to MLG Orlando. Drewbie will be leaving for Seoul on September 1st and returning October 12th. He will be living and training with some of the best Korean players in the world and we have high hopes that this intensive training period will take his game to the next level.

Drewbie had the following to say:

I’ve been playing StarCraft for almost 10 years, and Korea has always been the center of the StarCraft universe. It has always been a dream of mine to go there and compete and try to be one of the best players in the world. I’m excited to visit Korea and stay at the MVP house for some hardcore training. I’m working very hard right now so that I don’t get owned too badly when I get there. I’m really happy that compLexity has made this deal with MVP because it gives me this amazing opportunity. I want to thank compLexity and Team MVP, as well as Creative, PNY, SoundBlaster, Origin, and QPad USA for giving me this chance. I am very grateful and will do my best to take full advantage.

We’re excited about Andrew’s increased commitment to StarCraft 2 and are happy to support him as he works hard to represent the coL Community. Wish him luck in Korea and stay tuned for videos and photos of his trip!

Thanks as always for your support!

IGN Announces The IPL 3 Origins Live Event

August 16th, 2011

If you guys are anything like me, you spend all day sitting on websites like Reddit and TeamLiquid reading up on the latest StarCraft II rumors. Recently one of the most popular rumors was the IGN will be hosting a live LAN event. Today those rumors were confirmed.

IGN’s next step for its IPL is a live tournament held in Atlantic City, New Jersey dubbed the IPL 3 Origins. The event will feature a 256 Man Double Elimination Qualifiers at the venue, where the top 16 will get to enter the Championship Bracket. Leading up to the event, which takes place on October 6th – 9th, there will be 4 Global Online Qualifiers. The top 8 from these qualifiers will get placed in the Championship Bracket for the live event. In addition to the 16 players from the Live Qualifiers and the 8 from the Online Qualifiers, the IPL will be inviting 8 players to automatically be entered into the Championship Bracket, making it an even 32 player tournament. These 32 players will be duking it out for a piece of the $100,000 prize pool.

Unfortunately these are all the details that are currently available. As soon as more information comes in, you can be sure I’ll update this post.

coL.SC2 in the PTSL

August 16th, 2011

Much of the StarCraft II content that’s popular is focused on the highly competitive 1 vs. 1 scene. Thanks to the PTSL (Prodigy Team Star League), that all changes. This competitive league pits progamers against each other like the other leagues, however there’s an important twist; it’s a 2 vs. 2 league.

So far, the only tournament to feature 2 vs. 2 is the EG Masters Cup, and that is only one game in a best of five. The PTSL is 100% 2 vs. 2 and will feature a $1200 prize pool, 12 Pro 2v2 teams, commentary from Derrick “PsY” Anderson, Michael “Adebisi” Van (coL Academy), Driel Alex “HD” Do and Taylor “PainUser” Parsons. The best part is that the live stream and the VODs will be available in HD for free.

To make this league even more exciting, five members of the coL family are participating. There’s Team Destiny comprised of Destiny and Minigun, The Assassins with CatZ and Drewbie, and GiraffeBears with CrunCher and TriMaster. To see the rest of the teams click here.

The PTSL kicks off on Friday, Sept 2nd at 6:00 PM EST and will run for the rest of the weekend. To watch the action tune into the PTSL stream here.

PNY Launches GeForce Liquid Cooled Graphics Cards

August 16th, 2011

Parsippany, NJ – August 16, 2011 – PNY Technologies®, Inc. (“PNY”) launches their all-in-one Liquid Cooled Graphics solution, now available to consumers nationwide. The new line of Liquid Cooled Graphics will debut with two options: the XLR8™ Liquid Cooled GeForce® GTX 580 and XLR8™ Liquid Cooled GeForce® GTX 580 with CPU Cooling.

PNY and Asetek, a leader in CPU thermal management, have combined forces to launch a high-end Liquid Cooled Graphics solution geared towards gaming enthusiasts. Consumers will receive a fully integrated XLR8™ GeForce® GTX liquid cooled graphics system, with a combination GPU/CPU cooling version available as well. Engineered with a closed loop system, and built with an Asetek sealed water cooler already attached, the PNY design offers consumers an out-of-the-box ready, simple to install and reliable product.

PNY’s new Liquid Cooled Graphics system delivers significant benefits, with up to 30% cooler temperatures, 30% quieter acoustics and 10% faster performance than the standard reference designed NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 580 graphics card. With increased overclocking headroom versus air cooled, the liquid keeps overall temperature and noise levels low, while providing better performance for gamers. With a 30% reduction in temperature, PC parts are protected due to lower exposure to hot temperatures. Additionally, less noise is produced as fans aren’t running at maximum speed to compensate for the heat. Lower acoustics means a quieter gaming environment for more intense concentration and the option for gamers to eliminate the use of headphones to mask noise levels. The overall advantage is extreme performance and higher frame rates without the heat.

“Designed to increase performance while reducing noise and temperature, PNY’s Liquid Cooled Graphics offers the fastest factory-overclocked card currently on the market at 857 MHz,” said Nicholas Mauro, senior marketing manager, PC components for PNY. “The simple all-in-one design offers a powerful, yet easy to install and cost-effective gaming solution that’s backed by the PNY warranty. This highly anticipated graphics option will enable more enthusiast gamers to experience gaming in a whole new way.”

The first 100 consumers to purchase from PNY.com will receive a special promotional launch bundle. With the purchase of a Liquid Cooled GTX 580 on PNY.com, consumers will receive over $100 worth of bonus PNY gear: a 16ft Active High Speed HDMI Mini to HDMI Cable, a custom-built PNY 8GB ‘Liquid Cooled’ USB Flash Drive, and a ‘Liquid Cooled’ logo T-shirt.
