Project Manana: July Summer Camp

August 12th, 2011

Last month we called on you, the fans, asking for support for Project Manana, a small charity that provides food and education for impoverished children in the Domincan Republic. After receiving well over $1,000 from fans, players and staff, Project Manana had what they needed to host their July Summer camp which included over 50 children and a week of activities and fun.

Throughout the week, the children enjoyed:

  • Drama / Story Time
  • Lots of Games
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Singing / Dancing
  • … and, of course, a Nutritious Meal

As the camp came to a close, the children were treated to an ice cream party — with ice cream from their favorite local ice cream shop.

August 10th, 2011

Today is the first day of Blizzard Entertainment’s StarCraft II Latin American Battle.net Invitational. Aside from the fact that there’s a $24,000 USD prize pool and that the winner gets a spot in the 2011 Global Battle.net Invitational, the reason this is newsworthy is that CompLexity’s CatZ has been invited to participate.

For his first match, CatZ will be facing off against KTCapoch, a Protoss player from Argentina and a member of Keyd Team. Other noteworthy players participating include: MajOr, Retro, Fortune, KiLLeR, and Reason.

League of Legends Patch v1.0.0.123

August 9th, 2011

Today, League of Legends received another huge update that focused on balancing out champions and adding a brand new champion – Skarner, The Crystal Vanguard. The champions that received the major changes were Fiddlesticks, Garen, Leona, Nasus, and Pantheon. The update also changed the way kill streaks/death streaks are counted.

Skarner, The Crystal Vanguard

Skarner

Energize (Passive): Basic attacks lower the cooldowns of Skarner’s abilities by 1 second against champions and 0.5 seconds against non-champions.

Crystal Slash: Skarner lashes out with his claws, dealing physical damage to all nearby enemies and charging himself with Crystal Energy for several seconds. If he casts Crystal Slash again while empowered by Crystal Energy, he deals bonus magic damage and slows all targets hit.

Crystalline Exoskeleton: Skarner gains a shield and while the shield persists his movement speed and attack speed are both increased.

Fracture: Skarner summons a blast of crystalline energy which deals damage to enemies struck and marks them. Any further damage dealt to marked targets by Skarner will allow him to consume the mark to heal himself.

Impale (Ultimate): Skarner suppresses an enemy champion and deals magic damage to it. During this time, skarner can move freely and will drag his helpless victim around with him. When the effect ends, Skarner’s target will be dealt additional damage.

coL.SC2 vs. Reign – IPL Team Arena

August 9th, 2011

Tonight coL.SC2 will be playing Team Reign as part of IGN’s IPL Team Arena. Slated to kick off at 8:00 PM EST, commentary will be provided by IGN’s in-house caster CatsPajamas.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the IPL Team Arena format, it’s basically the same thing as the GSL Team League. Each team will send out one player who was chosen in secret to play in the first round. Winner stays while the losing team sends out another player and gets to pick the map. This system continues until one team has won five games.  To spice things up a bit, IGN is offering up a $100 bounty for each Team Arena match they win. This means that if CompLexity beast Reign tonight, they’ll be taking home an extra $100, on top of the $500 for winning the match, because Reign won last week versus Evil Geniuses.

Tonight’s match should be interesting considering that Reign has picked up KiWiKaKi and SLush, two players that used to be on ROOT Gaming which was acquired by CompLexity back in June. To get in on the action head over to the IPL at 8:00 PM EST.
