CrunCher Takes First in The North American Champions Trophy

July 7th, 2011

Today saw the finals of The North American Champions Trophy StarCraft II tournament. After fighting their way though a pretty nasty bracket featuring players like LzGamer, Axslav, Fenix, Stakufe, Ryze, and Spades, the two players left standing were compLexity’s CrunCher and CatZ.

In a thrilling best of 5 series which went all the way to game 5, CrunCher managed to get the upper hand on CatZ making CrunCher the North American Champion.

CrunCher took the first game on Tal’darim Altar, but lost the next two (Shakuras Plateau and Shattered Temple) putting him in dire straits. CrunCher some how managed to collect himself and win out the remaining two games on Crevasse and Terminus RE.

While it’s never fun to knock your teammate out of a tournament, both players put on a phenominal show and should be proud of their preformances. CrunCher takes home $250.00 USD along with a Killer 2100 networking card for the first place prize.

Interview with coL.CC

July 6th, 2011

Gootecks and Mike Ross from coL.CC were recently in Australia for Shadowloo Showdown 2K11 and had a chance to sit down with “Don’t Be a Scrub Podcast” for an interview.

Below is an excerpt from the hour long audio interview:

Today we are in the CQ hotel. It’s Shadowloo Showdown…God knows what day. But this is near the end of the event. And we have two very special guests with us today. All the way from the other side of the world. Definitely the people who follow the fighting game community have heard of these two.

And it’s Mike Ross and Gootecks.

Mike Ross: What’s going on man. Thanks for having us.

Gootecks: What’s up guys.

S: Thank you for coming down.

G: No problem, thank you for having us.

Muttonhead: Alright we’ll just get right into it, because they need to sleep!

S: It is quite late, yeah. (It is past 1 AM and they have an  8 AM flight.)

M: Yeah. So who came up with the idea of Crosscounter?

MR: That would be the man known as Gootecks.

G: Yeah um, we were fortunate enough to run into Machinima. Basically walked right into their offices by mistake.

S: Oh really?

G: Not by mistake but by fate! As it were.

And they spotted us, and they were like, hey, wanna do some Super Street Fighter IV videos? This was before Super came out in April of 2010. And we were like sure, that sounds amazing.

So we did some videos for them and over the course of the next several weeks they realized; hey these guys actually know what they’re doing.

MR: And for some reason people actually keep watching these videos.

G: Can’t quite figure out why.

MR: Yeah. So maybe if we bring them on board they might want to work with us.

G: Right.

MR: I guess then they said; hey Gootecks. Come up with something.

G: Yeah. So I was like, hey Mike you wanna do this show?

Which was…what we had in mind from the get go.

They didn’t know about it. We performed Inception on them.

MR: That is correct.

G: Planted the idea in their minds to give us our own show. And that’s how it came about.

FXO Sends ChoyafOu to MLG Anaheim

July 5th, 2011

Today it was annnounced that another Korean player will be attending MLG Anaheim, however this player is not part of the MLG/GSL League Exchange Program. Hyung Seop ‘Choya’ Lee, the player/coach from team fOu is being sent to Anaheim by the international team FXOpen.

According to Joshua Dentrinos, Esports Manager of FXOpen:

Whilst in Korea, I have made alot of friends, alot of foes, and alot of neutrals. ChoyafOu has been one of those people who have really made an impression on me personally, and I felt it my duty to pay him back and hopefully give him a good impression of not only myself, but foreign e-sports in general. I felt it my duty to pay him back for his personal hospitality. So, in return for his hospitality with me personally, I have decided to fly him to MLG Anaheim, to play with the FXO team and the foreigners and koreans that are participating in MLG Anaheim.

Choya will be sporting a FXO jersey with ChoyafOu on the back, however this does not mean he has join the FXOpen team. This is “merely a gesture to show his appreciation for me sending him to MLG.”

While Choya hasn’t been doing the best in the GSL recently, he did managed to fight his way back into Code A after dropping down to Code B last season. The pinnacle of his career, so far, was during GSL Open Season 3 where he knocked out Team Liquid’s Jinro in the quarter finals. While his results may not be on par with someone like IMNesTea or oGsMC, remember that SlayerSMMA won MLG Columbus despite being knocked out of Code A in GSL July.
