Baneling BBQ: Perspective
by Emil Erlandsson
Game 1: Backwater Gulch
CrunCher started out the game with two Gateways into pretty fast Robo tech. TT1, on the other hand, went with a three Gateway opener into Twilight council tech. CrunCher took a defensive posture, sticking to Immortals rather than teching to Colossus. In a clever move by TT1, he showed CrunCher a few Blink Stalkers but switched tech into Charge-lots. TT1 went on the offensive and, despite some great Force Fields by CrunCher, easily rolled over CrunCher’s Immortals and Stalkers with the Charge-lots winning the game.
Game 2: Tal’Darim Alter
TT1 opened with a four Gate rush, something very standard on this map. Realizing that a four Gate on Tal’Darim was inevitable, CrunCher went with the three Stalker rush, where you quickly get mobile on the map and pick off your opponents Probe before it can put pylons down. Executing the strategy perfectly, CrunCher picked off not one, but two of TT1’s Probes delaying the four Gate. While TT1 was busy trying to get a forward Pylon down, CrunCher managed to sneak a Probe into his opponent’s main and warped in two Zealots. These Zealots would be the crux of the game as they did irreparable damage to TT1’s economy. Realizing that he couldn’t come back in a long game, TT1 went all in. In an astounding micro battle that lasted for something like five minutes CrunCher managed to take out TT1’s army and win the game.
Game 3: Metalopolis
At the start of the game CrunCher decided it was his turn to try a four Gate. TT1 went with the very standard three Gate Robo build. One notable thing about the early game is that CrunCher put down a second Assimilator while TT1 was scouting him so that TT1 would think there was some sort of tech coming from CrunCher. Despite this clever move by CrunCher, his four Gate rush ultimately failed due to the game’s AI bugging out. Essentially, CrunCher had moved in to attack and TT1 Force Fielded his army. For some reason, the AI wouldn’t navigate around the Force Fields (even though there was room) and just stood there getting hit. With almost no army left, CrunCher had to retreat and try to catch up on tech. Both players sat back for a while, CrunCher trying to catch up and TT1 waiting until he had the amount of Colossus he felt comfortable with. Once his army was sufficient, TT1 moved across the map and had no problem dispatching CrunCher.
Tonight, CompLexity’s CrunCher will be taking on TT1 from FnaticMSI in week 8 of the North American Star League. Last week, TT1 beat Ensnare from oGs with a score of 2-0, while CrunCher beat QXC 2-0.
The match is set to begin at 10PM EST.

Four players will qualify from a pool of 32 from each region, and they will be joined by four other invited players, including MarineKing, the defending FXOpen Invitational Champion, in the final sixteen-man playoff bracket.
Staying true to FXOpen’s international focus, the commentary for the Invitational will be broadcasted on four different streams in four different languages. The english stream will feature the GSL Code A caster Wolf along with Unstable. Khaldor will handle the German broadcast, Slukad the Russian, and miDnight the Chinese.

Los Angeles, CA – June 7, 2011 – PNY Technologies®, Inc. (“PNY”), a global leader in flash memory cards, USB flash drives, solid state drives, High Speed HDMI® cables, computer memory upgrade modules, as well as consumer and professional graphics cards, today announced the debut of an innovative product line of Liquid Cooled Graphics Cards. PNY’s new Liquid Cooled Graphics solution will be showcased at E3 2011 from now until June 9th.
PNY and Asetek, a leader in CPU thermal management, have combined forces to launch a high-end Liquid Cooled Graphics solution geared towards gaming enthusiasts. Consumers will receive a fully integrated XLR8™ GeForce® GTX liquid cooled graphics system, with a combination GPU/CPU cooling version available as well. Engineered with a closed loop system, and built with an Asetek sealed water cooler already attached, the PNY design offers consumers an out-of-the-box ready, simple to install and reliable product.
This new system delivers significant benefits, with up to 30% cooler temperatures, quieter acoustics, and faster performance than the standard reference designed NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 580 graphics card. With increased overclocking headroom versus air cooled, the liquid keeps overall temperatures low to provide better performance for gamers. Liquid Cooled also generates less heat – for a 30° C difference in temperature – and your PC parts are protected due to lower exposure to hot temperatures. Additionally, less noise is produced as fans aren’t running at maximum speed to compensate for the heat. Lower acoustics means a quieter gaming environment for more gaming concentration and the option for gamers to not have to use headphones to mask noise levels. The overall advantage is extreme performance and higher frame rates without the heat.
PNY’s Liquid Cooled system is on display at the E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) 2011, taking place now through June 9th at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA. Attendees will have the opportunity to take a sneak peak of PNY’s Liquid Cooled Graphics at work in the Creative Labs, Inc. booth #5638, located in the West Exhibit Hall.
“Together with Asetek, PNY will redefine the way gamers build and upgrade their PC systems,” said Nicholas Mauro, senior marketing manager, PC components for PNY. “With a design that outperforms current equivalent air cooled models, this simple all-in-one solution will resonate deeply with gamers looking for a powerful yet affordable option. With tens of thousands of gamers already flocking to E3, there’s no better place to launch this product than the world’s premiere show for new technologies in computer gaming products.”
“PNY’s Liquid Cooled Graphics solutions deliver better performance, temperatures and acoustics to gamers with the reliability and ease of installation inherent in Asetek sealed liquid cooling,” said Adrian Hodgson, marketing manager at Asetek. “We’re thrilled to give E3 attendees the first chance to see these products in action.”
For a limited time only, PNY is offering consumers a pre-order promotional launch bundle. With the purchase of a Liquid Cooled GTX 580 on PNY.com, consumers will receive over $100 worth of bonus PNY gear: a 16ft HDMI Mini to HDMI Cable, a custom-built PNY 8GB ‘Liquid Cooled’ USB Flash Drive, and a ‘Liquid Cooled’ logo T-shirt. This bundle is available for a limited time only and only on PNY.com.
XLR8 Liquid Cooled GTX 580 – MSRP: $579.99

Today, leading live video streaming platform startup, Justin.tv has unveiled a new website for the competitive gaming community. Its name is TwitchTV and it will be both an eSports portal and community. Justin.tv hopes that the platform will be the one-stop-shop for all live video streaming for anything and everything eSports.
TwitchTV currently features live video content from games like Halo: Reach, StarCraft II, World of Warcraft and Call of Duty: Black Ops. Much like Justin.tv, TwitchTV will continue their partner program where gamers and tournaments alike can take a share in the ad revenue from their stream(s). In addition, much like the premium subscription that you can get from the North American Star League (www.NASL.tv), the company will continue to try to enhance that type of premium content model (eg. pay-per-view and subscription-based).
Keep in mind that the website is still in open beta so it may still have a few bugs!
Check out the press release HERE! To try out TwitchTV, visit their website HERE.
