coL.br places 5th-6th @ IEM World Finals

March 2nd, 2011

Post-Event

Unfortunately for CompLexity, Na`Vi proved to be too strong as they took it to the Brazilians in two maps, de_dust2 and de_train. With this loss, CompLexity is out of contention and will finish in the 5th/6th placing, taking home $2,500.

On de_dust2, Na`Vi dominated the first half, with coL dropping 13 out of the 15 rounds. Fortunately for coL, they managed to take the last round of the half which led to a string of 9 straight rounds in the second half. CompLexity managed to make the score 10-14, however Na`Vi put a stop to that and managed to secure the map.

On de_train, it was more of the same, as Na`Vi took a 13-2 first half once again, however this time coL.br could not mount a comeback, dropping the map by the score of 6-16.

Intel Extreme Masters 5 WC – Playoffs

After a grueling day of action, and an early one for the fans watching from the America’s, CompLexity Brazil has managed to advance to the playoff stage of the Intel Extreme Masters 5 World Championship in Hannover, Germany by placing 3rd in the group stage.

The day started out with coL taking it to UMX on de_inferno, however the same map would not provide the same result as coL fell to TCM only an hour later. Against FX, the Brazilians could not string together the rounds they needed to change the pace of the game and fell to the Poles by the one-sided score of 6-16. However, the second half of the day proved to be all coL as they managed to take down both M5 and the Danish powerhouse of mTw in convincing fashion.

With their final record of 3-2, coL has advanced to the playoffs behind mTw and FX and will take on Na`Vi tomorrow in round one. The match will be best of three and is set to begin at 3AM EST.

CompLexity was also interviewed prior to their match vs Na`Vi.

coL.br @ IEM5 World Championship Preview/Melee

March 1st, 2011

Starting tomorrow, CompLexity Brazil will take on 5 (out of 12) of the worlds best Counter-Strike 1.6 teams as Group A of the Intel Extreme Masters 5 World Championship kicks off in Hannover, Germany.

Group B has already completed, with SK-Gaming, Na`Vi and Fnatic moving on to the bracket stage that will be held on Thursday, March 3rd. With their first place finish in Group B, SK has secured themselves a spot in the semi-finals of the event.

CompLexity comes into this event fresh off their European Bootcamp for 2011 in Berlin, Germany where they trained day in and day out at the Icy-Box e-Sports Center. Having not played in a major event in months, coL.br will be looking to shake off the rust early to ensure that they are at the top of their game, as one slip up could mean the difference in securing a playoff birth or dropping out of contention all together.

The matches are set to begin at 3:10AM EST, with coL taking on UMX.

Steam expanding with “Big Picture” mode

March 1st, 2011

Valve is opening up the gaming arena in more ways then one by introducing “Big Picture” mode that “will offer controller support and navigation designed for television interaction.” With Steamworks coming to PlayStation 3 with Portal 2, this could be something to pay attention to.

VP of marketing Doug Lombardi says this,

“Our partners and customers have asked us to make Steam available in more places. With the introduction of Steam on the Mac, and soon in Portal 2 on the PS3, we’ve done just that. With big picture mode, gaming opportunities for Steam partners and customers become possible via PCs and Macs on any TV or computer display in the house.”

More details about “Big Picture” mod will be released during Game Developer’s Conference this week.
