MLG releases SC2 Map Pool

February 28th, 2011

The following is a list of the maps that will be used at MLG Dallas, as well a detailed description of the changes MLG has made to these maps, where applicable.

MLG Metalopolis*

MLG Scrap Station

MLG Shakuras Plateau*

MLG Shattered Temple*

MLG Xel’Naga Caverns*

MLG ICCup Testbug*

MLG Crossfire SE

*A building blocker has been added to the ramps of each of the starred maps, at each ramp closest to the main’s natural expansion. This blocker prevents the ramp from being blocked by the current standard amount of buildings (e.g., three pylons, two bunkers, etc.).  Examples: Metalopolis, Shakuras Plateau, Testbug, Xel’Naga Caverns.

Starting spawns on Metalopolis and Shattered Temple have been modified to prevent close ground spawns.

Starting spawns on Shakuras Plateau have been modified to ensure cross-map spawns only.

To access this map pool, including the non-ladder maps, simply search for “MLG” on the StarCraft 2 map selection screen.

Naama leaves Mousesports

February 28th, 2011

Santeri “Naama” Lahtinen has left mousesports for the French team Virus. He will be joining forces with his old Finnish friend Satiinin.

The managers of both teams discussed Naama’s contract and came to this friendly conclusion. Santeri one of Finland’s best SC2 players had this to say about mousesports:

“My time in mousesports was great and I´d like to thank all in the team for being awesome. Many teams in e-sport seem not to be reliable and professional but mousesports is the completely opposite. Everything that was promised for me was done and I have no bad word to say about this team and thanks for letting me go even though I was contracted.”

Happy Birthday FireZerg

February 28th, 2011

The Syndicate would like to wish coL.sc2’s own Sam “FireZerg” Prowse a very Happy Birthday as he turns 19 today!

Sam joined CompLexity at the start of the new year, when we acquired teamNOVA. As a member of CompLexity, FireZerg has shown why is he one of the highest rated Gosu Coaches. He’s always coming up with new strats, being very friendly and funny when it comes to practice. His dedication is what is helping this team get to the level they want to be on.

Once again, we’d like to wish a very Happy 19th Birthday to Sam “FireZerg” Prowse!

Nak Interviewed by HLTV

February 28th, 2011

With the Intel Extreme Masters 5 World Championship only a few days away, Renato “nak” Nakano conducted an interview with HLTV.org. The interview discusses the teams preparation for the event as well as what Nak predicts the outcome to be.

Below is an excerpt from the interview:

Who do you think that are the main favourites for the IEM trophy?

The favourites are the same as always, Na´Vi, fnatic, SK, mTw and FX. But in my opinion, the teams are absurdly even. Being favourite does not win matches. I have no idea who will come out with the title. There will be 12 teams with great chances of getting the crown, some with the help of a good day or luck, but all with great chances.

At WCG, you finished in fourth place. Do you think you will fare better this time around?

That is our goal. We have been growing, at ESWC we finished in 5th-8th place, at WCG we got a top4 finish and we won the IEM5 American Championship. The results have always been improving. We believe that a top3 finish is possible or a place in the final, who knows?

HLTV.org also provided an excellent preview of coL @ IEM5. An excerpt from that can be found below:

Brazilian Counter-Strike has a great place in history, it has always been mingling with the very best in the field, but very few titles have actually been brought back to South America. Looking in the history books, we have to go back to 2006 to find the first and sort of the only major win for Brazil.  At ESWC 2006 in Paris, a team experienced players and young talents went to the very top, as Made in Brazil downed fnatic to win the event.

A year later in Copenhagen, Made in Brazil won shgOpen 2007 with a victory against PGS. The same year, DreamHack Winter was conquered with a win against SK Gaming in the final. In the Summer of 2008, the Brazilians once again won an event, winning GameGune 2008 with a win against mousesports in the Grand Final. But this sums up the tournament victories for Brazilian CS. A good three years brought Brazil 3 titles, but what happened afterwards?

Grubby gives an interview with SK-Gaming

February 27th, 2011

Manuel ‘Grubby’ Schenkhuizen talks about the end of WC3 and his future in SC2. The interview was during the Assembly Winter 2011.

This interview is about 20-minutes long. Grubby first breaks down WC3, talking about his win ratio in tournaments compared to MooN, Sky, and other pro WC3 players. Then Grubby speaks about his future in SC2 and how you dont have to be in South Korea in order to compete with the top players.

Grubby did not advance out of his group in Assembly Winter 2011, however it was clear that his skill level in SC2 was not to far away from where it needs to be to show he can be a top SC2 player.

The interview can be found here.

PG2: coL.SC2 vs sC

February 27th, 2011

Post-Game

coL.SC2 was able to get 6 out of 7 points tonight vs Team sC. The champions match has been postponed until next week. coL.rsvp will then play PLZLEAVEDUCK on Lost Temple for the shut out.

Pre-Game

Last week the guys were able to beat 1nsanity 5-2. Today we are going up against team sC in the ESGL, who had a very close game with RoW, but came up short 4-3. The match is set to start at 9:00PM EST.

* Clan War
– Each team on a clan war has 1 Team Champion and 3 Challengers. The team champion for one team will play all 3 challengers on the opposing team. A match between both champions will also be played. This will result in 7 total 1v1 matches.
– All series are best of 1
– Team is awarded 1 point per match won, even if the winning player is a challenger. No points will be given for a loss.
* Maps
– Champion vs Champion map of the series will be posted by the league admins, the remaining maps are decided by the Challenger.
* Map Veto System
– Before the start of the war, both team champions will decide on 2 maps to veto from map pool. Failure to announce veto map before the 2nd game will result in the loss of veto power.
– A champion may play a map only once in a given war. After each match, the map played will be vetoed for future matches against that champion.
– Each champion will have their own map pool. The pool starts with 8 maps, the weeks champion map is removed and the champions veto maps will also be removed. The first challenger must then choose from a pool of 6 maps. A map may only be used once. Each succeeding challenger must play on a different map.

Lineups will be added in 15 minutes prior to the start of the match.

Playing Protoss with Antimage

February 27th, 2011

ESEANews has sat down with coL.Antimage to go over a replay on Lost Temple against NrGostojiy, an American Zerg player.

Hi everyone, this is Antimage and some of you know me as Victor. Just a short background – I played Starcraft “mostly” recreationally (C+ iccup) and Warcraft III/Dota. I found Starcraft II as a very exciting game as it was undiscovered, unexplored and unmastered.

The replay is from game 4 of a Best-of-5 series in the semi-finals of the Universities of Southern Ontario Gamers Tournament (I was down 1-2 going into this game).
