No More Arbalet Cups?

November 19th, 2010

In a statement released early today by Alex, one of Arbalet’s closest advisors, we should not expect to see any more Arbalet Cups in the near future.

In the statement, it states that the initial purpose of the Arbalet Cup was for Murat “Arbalet” Zhumashevich to provide support to teams from the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States). It was to show that those teams could compete with the best teams from around the world, on the most grand of stages. With Na`Vi becoming what many believe to be the world’s best Counter-Strike 1.6 team, that goal has succeeded, with the team winning the Intel Extreme Masters, ESWC Championship and the WCG Championship, along with numerous Arbalet Cups. According to the statement, Na`Vi will continue to be supported through the end of 2011.

In the future, if Valve releases another version of Counter-Strike, it is expected that Arbalet will return to host another event. The original statement, translated into English from Russian can be found by clicking here.

coL.TF2 ESEA Preview

November 18th, 2010

ESEANews.com has opened their series of ESEA LAN Previews with a look into CompLexity TF2. coL.TF2 faltered last season as they went in to the playoffs as the defending champions, but fell short of their third in a lower bracket loss to Blight.own. The article by ESEANews breaks down “the gameplan” that coL.TF2 will need to use in order to succeed this season.

Just about every player in coL’s starting 6 are known quantities by this point, and though it took them about a half-season to fully adjust to each other as teammates, the comfort and ease at which these guys now play together with speaks volumes to their chemistry and teamwork. coL is very much a two-sided coin, with one half acting as the passive, rock-hard foundation and the other acting like the high-flying, in-your-face aggression that was typical of the previous carnage-led coL – and you can probably guess who falls where.

It actually kind of amazes me that it took this long for TheFragile and relic to hook up as a combo, because they are each perfectly suited to the other’s style of play. relic’s rocket-aim has long since been compared to that of a turret, capable of taking out anything that even remotely threatens his Medic, which makes it that much harder to pull off a successful suicide run and guarantees Fragile’s safety. Fragile repays the favour by his near-perfect positioning, always on the safe side of things but still able to jump in and throw out some save-heals if his other teammates need it.

Guarding Fragile’s back and often playing as secondary-combo is perhaps the one question mark in coL’s otherwise stalwart lineup, their Demo justin. It’s no secret that he’s never going to pull off the big-time frag numbers that come with the likes of b4nny, Kalkin or boomer, but by the same token he also won’t make very many mistakes nor leave his team vulnerable very often. The only real issue for coL is when the shit has hit the proverbial fan and it falls to justin to get Fragile home safely, which is a toss up with some of the talent that is most likely chasing.

The ESEA Season 7 LAN Playoffs and Finals will take place in Dallas, Texas at the Wyndham DFW Airport Hotel from November 19th to the 21st. Stay tuned to CompLexity Gaming as we bring you the latest news from the event!

Yale Study: Gaming Isn’t Unhealthy

November 16th, 2010

In a study done by Yale University, it has been determined that not only does gaming pose little threat to adolescent teens, it may even be beneficial to their health.

The study was published Monday morning in the journal Pediatrics and has been called one of the most comprehensive examinations of video games’ effect on health among adolescents.

Of 4,000+ people that participated in the study, over 50% were gamers. Rani Desai, associate professor of psychiatry and epidemiology at Yale even goes on to state that he believes that gaming does not pose a concern for adolescent teens. He also believes that playing video games may be a primary factor in detering gamers from taking up smoking.

Desai does, however, state that there are the bad apples of the group that face cigarette smoking, drug use, depression and serious fights as a possible result of gaming addiction, however they make up a mere 5% of the gaming population.

More information about the study can be found here.

Brad Dick Retires

November 16th, 2010

Brad Dick, the owner and founder of Eximius Sports has decided to call it quits after 12 years of managing the organization. Brad had this to say about his retirement:

After twelve years (1998-2010), of being the owner of Eximius Sports, I regretfully announce that I will be shutting the doors of the organization and I will be retiring from E-Sports managing. It has been a great run for the organization and me. I have had hundreds of people come through Eximius Sports and have met many people. I have had the privilege and opportunity to attend countless LAN Tournaments and dozens of appearances for E-Sports. The people that I have met have made a big impact in my life; life is all about relationships and I feel that I have established many. To all of those who I have met, it was an honor to have met you.

It is hard to believe that Eximius Sports first started out as a public server clan in 1998. I never would have thought it would grow to what it became. We may not have been the greatest North American organization, but the one thing I always tried to stand for was honesty. My theme has always been, “Never offer something that you do not already have.” Most of you know that money does not grow on trees, nor did it in Eximius Sports. We never had the $100,000 a year contracts with DeLL or Creative, we had smaller ones with multiple companies who stood by us through thick and thin for over ten years. To those companies I say thank you for your trust in me and the organization.

I have always tried to set a good example for my players in Eximius Sports and the average gamer. I always tried to talk, act, and dress as if they were coming to a business for an interview. I believe I was not only making them feel confident in the organization, but I was trying to prepare some of these younger people for life. If I helped just one person in the way I conducted myself, well then I succeeded. Some of my greatest joys in my twelve years was getting the chance to see young players move into the E-Sports spotlight as one of the greats. Not many people can say they have watched a new generation of gamers move through the industry. It makes me smile to say that I was one of the few, but makes me even happier to know that there are still people like Jason Lake, Alex Conroy, Craig Levine and Scott Smith are still here for you.
