Entropia User Brings in $635,000

November 13th, 2010

In a story by Yahoo Games, a user in the popular game Entropia has managed to sell virtual property for the whopping some of $635,000.

Jon Jacobs, also known as the character ‘Neverdie’, purchased the land back in 2005 for $100,000 and managed to transform it into a hopping club and resort. By selling rights to hunt and land on the asteroid, Jacobs managed to make 100% of his initial investment back in just 8 months.

Entropia Universe is a massive multiplayer online virtual universe designed by the Swedish software company MindArk, based in Gothenburg. Entropia uses a micropayment business model, in which players may buy in-game currency (PED – Project Entropia Dollars) with real money that can be redeemed back into real world funds at a fixed exchange rate. This means that virtual items acquired within Entropia Universe have a real cash value, and a participant may, at any time, initiate a withdrawal of their accumulated PEDs back into real world currencies according to the fixed exchange rate, minus transaction fees, the minimum amount for a withdrawal is 1000 PED. As a result, revenue of the business is largely generated from activities within the virtual universe.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Released

November 8th, 2010

Starting today and continuing until midnight in Hawaii, Call of Duty: Black Ops is being released to an anxious public. The game, which sequels Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the second best-selling video game of all time, is being shipped to both retail stores and digital download and is available for the Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Nintendo DS systems.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is the seventh game of the franchise series and promises to immerse the user in intense, realistic, war battle scenes, much like those featured in the previous installments. Black Ops also includes some new features to the series, namely customizable weaponry, expanded online head-to-head options and a broader arsenal of weapons — including crossbows with exploding bolts, pyrotechnic shells and ballistic knives.

For PC users, the game features an extensive multiplayer game which allows users to run their own servers via hosting provided by GameServers.com, one of the world’s largest Game Server Providers. Users with their own server have the option to run either Ranked or Unranked Servers. Ranked Servers will allow users to obtain XP, which will contribute to promotions and unlocks. They can’t, however, be modified with addons and the amount of customization is limited. Unranked Servers are moddable, however do not track XP.

WEM: We Made Fox Wins WEM 2010

November 7th, 2010

In a surprising outcome, We Made Fox have proved victorious in the Grand Finals of the World e-Sports Masters 2010 tournament being held in Hangzou, China.

As one of the few teams representing the Asian region in this tournament, We Made Fox battled their way through the Upper Bracket before losing to SK-Gaming in the Upper Bracket Finals. In the lower bracket, WMF took on the Polish powerhouse, the Frag Executors, on de_inferno where they managed to convincingly take down one of the favorites to win the championship.

In the Grand Finals, SK and WMF squared off on both de_nuke and de_tuscan in a best of three match up to determine the champions. On de_nuke, SK came out firing as they took the pistol round and looked to be in perfect shape to take the half from WMF. Unfortunately for them, WMF came prepared as they stacked the ramp and countered the aggressive SK push. After this round, SK only managed to grab one more round in the half, falling to WMF by the score of 13-2. The second half was all WMF as they secured the 3 rounds needed to take the first map of the series.

On the second map of de_tuscan, both teams appeared to have a hold on their opponents as they traded rounds, coming out even at the end of the half, with WMF barely coming out on top by the score of 8-7. In the second half, We Made Fox proved why they were the new team to beat as they dominated SK, successfully negating any strat that SK wanted to run. WMF only gave up 3 of the next 11 rounds to take the map, the series and the WEM 2010 championship.

WEM 2010 Results

1. WeMade FOX – $22,000
2. SK Gaming – $11,000
