EG Wins MSI BEAT IT 2010

September 6th, 2010

In the final day of action, two MSI sponsored teams proved to be the best in attendence as both EG and Fnatic remained.

On de_dust2, Fnatic started on the terrorist side, however the advantage proved to be minimal as EG shut them down on occassion, only giving them a three round advantage (9-6) going into the second half. EG managed to have a more successful terrorist side with Fnatic not able to hold their attack, ending the first map of action with a 16-12 score in favor of EG.

On de_nuke EG continued their momentum in the first half of action on the CT side of the map, taking the first half by the score of 11-4. It looked like EG had the tournament in the bag before Fnatic finally rose to the occassion and battled their way back to tie the score and force the match into over-time. In the first over-time, the score did not deviate from the tie and a second over-time was needed. In the second over-time Fnatic grabbed a final and much needed round to take the map (22-20) and tie the series at 1-1.

On de_train, Fnatic looked to be drained of energy after the double over-time win. EG demolished the Swedish powerhouse by the score of 12-3 on the favored CT side of the map. With Fnatic’s back up against the wall, they needed to string together 13 rounds for victory. Unfortunately for them, EG’s buying strategy took them by surprise and EG capitalize to take the map by the score of 16-7.

With the win on de_train, EG took the series 2-1 and the MSI BEAT IT 2010 Championship. The team has won 5 MSI GT660 laptops as well as $15,000 in prize money.

Final Standings

Evil Geniuses – $15,000
fnatic – $7,500
Lions – $2,500

POV returns with Savior

September 2nd, 2010

The former compLexity cs squad has returned with the name of POV.wp. coL.cs was released a day ago when three members missed their flights to CHINA for the MSI Beat IT tournament.

David “savi0r” Park will be replacing Thomas “thoMz” Garcia. Savior played for the previous compLexity lineup when they originally joined from x3o.

“Replacing Tom isn’t something any of us were jumping to do. Even though this isn’t a “team” and this isn’t a “roster change,” Tom gave us little to no space to work with when making this decision. We knew we had to look elsewhere as things would always be a little off due to this unfortunate turn of events. With that said, it is what it is and we’re past that for the most part and we’re all looking forward to the upcoming events instead of dwelling on the past.” – Derek “dboorN” Boorn

This brings the POV roster to:

Derek “dboorN” Boorn
Andrew “Irukandji” Timmerman
Kevin “aZn” Wang
David “savi0r” Park
Jeff “HerotowN” Mettetel

CALeague Reopens

September 2nd, 2010

Earlier this week we announced that the CPL website had been released. On Tuesday, the CAL website also made it’s return, sporting a similar design to the CPL site. The official status of CAL is that they will only be offering Heroes of Newerth competitions at the moment.

As of this time, the league has no plans to expand their game list. Below is an excerpt of the official press release:

The CPL has partnered with S2 Games to run a North American online tournament for Heroes of Newerth (HoN) in conjunction with the launch of the new Caleague.com (CAL).

“I was very pleased when the CPL approached us about the launch of the new CAL” said Marc DeForest, CEO and Founder, S2 Games. ‚”The Heroes of Newerth competitive scene has grown significantly since release and competition is getting fierce. That makes HoN the perfect title for the re-launch and we are very happy that they chose HoN to be the first league showcased.”

Registration for the league will open on September 1 and run through September 29. 128 teams of five people per team will be allowed to enter this inaugural tournament for the new CAL. The format will be 5v5 in a single elimination in a best of one for prelim and best of three for quarter finals onwards bracket beginning on October 8 and ending on October 24.

The winning team will receive Hotel and Airfare to the DreamHack 2010 winter event, where they will compete against seven other international teams for $15,000 in cash and prizes! DreamHack Winter 2010 takes place November 25-28 in Sweden.

Creative Announces Tactic 3D™

Creative Announces the Sound Blaster® Tactic 3D™ Line of Gaming Headsets for a Completely Immersive 3D Audio Experience

Milpitas, CA September 1, 2010 – Creative, a worldwide leader in digital entertainment products, today announced the new line of Tactic 3D™ gaming headsets featuring THX® TruStudio Pro technology for a completely immersive 3D audio experience. Available in September, the Sound Blaster® Tactic 3D Alpha™ and Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Sigma™ gaming headsets are the first Sound Blaster headsets to feature customizable profiles, for a precise audio experience every time.

“Creative gaming headsets are the only headsets in the world to deliver a true 3D immersive experience – with sound coming from around you, above you and from below. As games have evolved and 3D video has become the norm, Creative headsets with THX TruStudio Pro are the perfect complement, providing gamers with a completely immersive, mind-blowing 3D audio and video experience,” said Steve Erickson, VP and GM for audio and video at Creative.

“We’ve taken our THX TruStudio Pro audio technology suite and given gamers control of every nuance of the way their games sound, allowing them to customize their own TacticProfile™, which can then be shared with other gamers. We have even included pre-configured profiles from world-renowned gamers such as Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel and members from international professional gaming teams compLexity and Dignitas, allowing gamers with one click of their mouse to reconfigure the headset audio properties to the exact specification of the professional gamer,” said Ryan Schlieper, product manager for gaming audio at Creative.

The THX TruStudio Pro audio technology, developed by the legendary sound engineers at Creative, in conjunction with THX, uses proprietary advanced algorithms that allow sounds to be recreated above, below and all around the gamer, surpassing the limitations of typical 5.1 and 7.1 headsets. It also allows gamers to hear voices and sounds in amazing detail regardless of how far away they are, making the Tactic3D line of headsets the optimal way to fully experience audio in the next generation of 3D gaming.

THX TruStudio Pro Surround Audio delivers a 360 degree surround sound gaming experience so gamers can hear sounds clearly from the front, back, above and below. “The difference between hearing sounds just to left of me versus to left and above me is huge when playing in a tournament match. THX TruStudio Pro Surround gives me the advantage I need versus using standard 5.1 and 7.1 headsets,” said Yfran “Eafra” Garcia, professional FIFA player.

THX TruStudio Pro features proprietary THX TruStudio Pro Crystalizer™ real-time audio restoration technology, which enhances in-game sound by restoring low and high end frequency curves lost to compression. “With THX TruStudio Pro Crystalizer we hear details that you just aren’t able to hear otherwise, which gives us a definite competitive advantage,” said Alex “Sodah” Ringe, professional World of Warcraft player.

THX TruStudio Pro Smart Volume™ addresses the problem of abrupt volume level changes in games by automatically and continuously measuring volume, and intelligently applying gain and attenuation to compensate for those changes. “In critical gaming matches there is a lot going on audio-wise. You have team leaders calling out instructions, gun fire and other audio cues happening all around you. Having THX TruStudio Pro Smart Volume is important because it allows me to hear everything in the map, near or far,” said David “Xp3” Garrido, professional Counter-Strike player.

THX TruStudio Pro Dialog Plus™ enhances voices during in-game communication for clearer dialog, allowing the gamer to hear the dialog over the rest of the sounds and over ambient noise in the listening environment. “Whether you are listening to dialog or listening to your team strat caller, it’s critical to be able to hear commands clearly and THX TruStudio Pro Dialog Plus allows voices to cut through in-game audio even in the most intense situations,” said Michael “Twix” Shane, professional World of Warcraft player.

Explosive THX TruStudio Pro Bass™ produces heart-pounding, customizable bass levels without compromising signal integrity. “It is always satisfying to get a frag with the rocket launcher. It is even more satisfying with THX TruStudio Pro Bass enabled,” said Brian “dkt” Flander, professional Quake Live player.

All of the features within the THX TruStudio Pro software suite are completely customizable and can be saved with the TacticProfile feature, so gamers don’t have to modify their settings every time they play.

TheCPL.com Website Released

August 30th, 2010

Several days ago, the CPL website was officially released to the public, only a few weeks after the press release from WuLong and New World . The website, which is currently operated by TF2 star and esports journalist, Sam “OPlaid” Lingle features only news and a sign up form at this time, though it has been announced that we can expect more from the site in the near future.

It is important to note that among the list of current staff of the new CPL, which features Ryan Shumacher, Sam Lingle and Hunter Luisi, Scott Valencia is nowhere to be found and has been reported to have nothing to do with the current organization at this time.

The CPL organization has released the following press statement:

One decade ago, the Cyberathlete Professional League decided to feature Counter-Strike as its primary tournament game, and esports was born. Perhaps that’s a bit hyperbolic, but there’s no denying that the CPL was the vehicle that drove the growth of the esports into an international phenomenon in the western world. CPL was the dream that every player strived for, the one tournament that even the teams from Sweden and Germany and England just had to win. It was a symbol that stood for esports, an example that showed the potential that esports had to captivate fans of gaming everywhere.
