August 11th, 2010

Winner

Congratulations to Andrew “Andrw^” B. the winner of the XFX Radeon™ HD 5770 Contest! Andrew was selected randomly out of over 500 entries to receive the all-important private message. He proceeded to answer all three questions correctly, making him the official winner. It is also important to note that Andrew was the first and only user selected.

Contest

Today XFX has launched the XFX ATI Radeon™ HD 5770 single slot graphics card. To commerate that launch XFX is running a contest where they will give away one of these cards to one lucky winner.

The contest takes place in two stages. First you need to head on over to the XFX site by clicking here and use the information available there to answer the three questions below:

1. What percenatage greater is the heatpipe surface on this card versus 5770 dual slot graphics card?
2. How many decibels lower is the accoustic level of the 5770 Single slot versus the 5770 dual slot graphics card?
3. What 3 “ility” words are specifically mentioned in the product description?

Once you answer these questions store them for later use! In order to enter the contest simply respond to this thread with the following:

XFX ROCKS
http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/graphiccards/HD%205000series/5771.aspx

One lucky winner will be randomly selected and will receive a private message on this site. The winner will need to respond with the answers to the questions in order to win. If the first winner does not respond within one day of selection we will select a second winner.

Prize

There’s an ideal graphics card for every gamer, and the XFX ATI Radeon™ HD 5770 single slot graphics card is for the gamer looking for “ility,” as in “utility,” “stability,” and “reliability,” not to mention some excellent overclocking “capability.” A single-slot card variant of the 5700 performance card family, it sports a uniquely designed fansink, with a total heatpipe surface area that is 15% greater than the HD 5770 dual slot channel fansink. This, combined with the open space provided by the single slot environment, ensures maximum airflow to the GPU.

An acoustic comparison of the 5700 family found that the XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770 single slot was up to 23.5 dB lower than the HD 5770 dual slot full cover fansink. Enhanced cooling and reduced noise is helped by fan speed, which is controlled by a PWM circuit on the PCB. Dust levels are kept down to a minimum with IP-5X dust protection standard. For gamers who have been waiting for the ideal single-slot graphics card, the XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770 has been worth the wait. The unique cooling capacity—and reduced noise levels—of this single-slot solution turns up the “ility,” making this a very attractive graphics card indeed.

This contest is only open to residents of North America. You must be a resident of the United States or Canada in order to win this contest. Any contestants who respond with the answers to the questions will be automatically disqualified! The contest will end on Monday, August 23rd.

WCG Ultimate Gamer Cast Announced

August 11th, 2010

The WCG has announced the cast for Season 2 of the WCG Ultimate Gamer competition, with the Grand Finals in Los Angeles, California at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Included in the list are some notable names from the CGS-era, including Kat Gunn, Vanessa Arteaga, and Yaz “Clown” Ammari. Below is the complete list of cast members from the official press release:

The Cast

* Yazan Ammari,  Granada Hills, CA – Sometimes called “The Clown,” Yaz can be the best friend of his fellow competitors, or their worst enemy as he laughs his way to the top.

* Vanessa Arteaga, Modesto, CA – Vanessa burst onto the professional gaming scene and made an immediate impact with her superior skills, model looks and attitude. Vanessa is generally a nice girl, but if you make her angry, watch out, because there could be an explosion!

* Ryan Burnett, Portland, OR – From the Northwest, Ryan was kicked out of the house at 13; he credits video games for ‘saving his life’ and propelling him to be the biggest gamer in Oregon…but can he be the best of the best-

* Sebastian Burton, Stamford, CT – “Chosen1” Is a trash-talker who aims to dominate the gaming world. Even though he has a tough exterior, he will give you the shirt off his back if you need it.

* Katherine Gunn, Lancaster, CA – “Kat” is a natural born talent in gaming as she was raised in a gaming family. With the pedigree, don’t underestimate her skills and passion to work her way to the top just because she is a girl gamer.

* Michael LaBelle, Houston, TX
– The resident jock of the cast, Michael is known for his specialty in sports games and his self-proclaimed way with the ladies.

* Faye Mata, Kenosha, WI
– This pre-med student says that drama just seems to follow her wherever she goes. Faye doesn’t let the haters – especially other females – bother her as she works to smash the competition.

* AJ Mazur, Shelton, CT – Don’t be fooled by this self-described ‘typical dorky gamer.’ AJ is a fierce competitor and is currently up for a “Rock Band” World record.

* Caesar Noreiga, Parlin, NJ – “Mr. Suave” is Jersey born, but spends his time perfecting his skills on a wide range of games instead of working on his tan – as a result, he’s raked up several top tournament finishes in the process.

* Jacob “Jake” Pfister, Kent, OH – This passionate gamer rallied online and offline supporters to win his way onto the show as the 12th contestant. Jake hates being worse than someone at anything, which drives him to prove he’s the best gamer.

* Rachel Quirico, Branchburg, NJ – Rachel knows she is cute but she is more than a pretty face as she is well known throughout the professional community for her gaming skills and blazing confidence – she’s relentless on girl and guy gamers alike.

* Justin Wong, New York City, NY – “JWong” is known as the best “Street Fighter” player in the United States. A force to be feared, he supports his parents by gaming, though they are unaware of his profession. Can Justin conquer WCG Ultimate Gamer using his self-proclaimed “Justin Wong Factor-“

Sean “sgares” Gares had this to say to GoLoaded.com:

I’ve never been happier about joining a team. This team has so much potential, but is already the best team I’ve been on. With a few intense practice sessions I can easily see us being the best in the US in addition to contending internationally! Steno is probably the best in game leader in the US scene at the moment, and is constantly helping and giving advice in practices. Hostile is a great motivator in addition to being the best at his role. Pauly is our young gunner who’s always looking to better himself, and is just in love with the game. What sets this team apart from others though is the family atmosphere where everyone can take criticism and constantly better themselves.

The Loaded roster is now as follows:

Paul “pauLy” Guerboyan
Shaun “hostile” Catron
Nazar “steno” Vynnytsky
Scott “evolution” Cavallero
Sean “sgares” Gares

coL.cs Wins the EG Master’s Tournament

August 7th, 2010

Postgame

After a back and forth battle, coL.cs managed to take the first map of de_nuke by the score of 16-14 to open up the Grand Finals of the EG Master’s Tournament. In the second map, the tides shifted as Loaded rolled over coL.cs with relentless inner rushes and amazing play from steno. On the third map of de_inferno, it proved to be similar to de_nuke, where both teams traded round after round to take it to a 14-14 score. Finally, it was coL.cs that strung together two rounds to win the match and the tournament by the score of 16-14.

coL.cs will take home $2000 and have secured a trip to China. They will also take on EG at an undetermined time to compete for 5 MSI notebooks.

EG Master’s Tournament

Update #1: After an annihalation of Finesse on de_dust2, the two teams met on de_inferno. Finesse managed to get out to an early lead, making it look bleek for coL.cs who needed just one more map to advance to the Grand Finals of the EG Master’s Cup. Finesse made the scrore 10-5 at half and prepared to take the victory as they made the score 14-7, however coL.cs wouldn’t have any of it as they buckled down and made their run. coL.cs brought the score to 14-14 and eventually took the lead and the victory by the score of 16-14.

coL.cs will now take on the winner of Loaded and UE. That match is currently underway.

Pre-Finals

Tomorrow begins the winners bracket of the EG tournament that has been running all week long. coL.cs has managed to dominate the field by losing only a total of 8 rounds in the 3 matches that they’ve played against recess, net6| and diu9u.

coL.cs joins Loaded, UE and Area51 -or- Fnesse (that match has yet to have been played) in the winners bracket, making for a very interesting and competitive day of action. In the first match for coL tomorrow, they will take on the winner of Area51 and Fnesse. That match still has not been played, however we expect it to be played early tomorrow.

The teams will be playing for the chance at $2,000 for first place along with a trip to China, as well as the chance to play EG for 5 msi notebooks. The matches are set to begin at 3:30PM EST, with coL’s first match beginning at 5:00PM EST. HLTV’s WILL be provided for the finals.
