IMG Academy’s James Leath Visits coL.Dota

July 27th, 2016

Throughout our history, compLexity has been at the forefront of innovation when it comes to providing the highest quality of training for our players. Earlier this year we made headlines when we secured six P-1A visas for our players, and when we became the first eSports team to train at the world famous IMG Academy (“IMGA”). Today we are honored to welcome a special guest, as IMGA sends renowned leadership, communication and coaching expert James Leath to assist coL.Dota in training for The International.

As IMGA’s Head of Leadership, Athletic and Personal Development, James has unique and extensive experience in training athletes for the world’s largest and most prestigious competitions. James will be working with coL.Dota and coach Alan ‘Nahaz’ Bester in the team’s Florida based training facility, focusing on team dynamics, communication, and conflict resolution in a high stress environment.

IMG Academy is one of the world’s largest and most advanced multi-sport training and educational institutions. IMG Academy helps countless youth, adult, collegiate and professional athletes reach their full potential in and out of sport by providing world-class teaching and coaching, tailored programs and professional facilities. The Athletic and Personal Development program at the Academy provides sports performance services like physical and mental conditioning, brain training, and nutrition, and are applicable to eSports.

compLexity Dota Adds Nahaz as Coach

July 18th, 2016

Today we are proud to announce a new member of coL.Dota and the compLexity family, and our first dedicated Dota coach, Alan ‘Nahaz’ Bester. Nahaz is a professor of Economics at the University of Western Ontario, in London, but he is better known as one of the premier on-camera analysts in Dota 2. Since 2014 Nahaz has traveled the world and been a part of numerous major Dota 2 events, yet his biggest challenge now lies ahead with compLexity at The International.

compLexity General Manager Kyle ‘Beef’ Bautista touched on the addition:

“To many people Nahaz may seem like an odd choice for a coaching position, but to myself and our team, he was the only choice. Nahaz is extremely intelligent, well spoken, hard working, and his mature approach and attitude extends to the way in which he works with our team. What he may lack in professional experience in the booth, Alan more than makes up for with his preparation, statistical analysis, and ultimately the way in which he enhances our team’s ability to prepare and improve. I could not be more happy to welcome Nahaz on board for The International.”

Nahaz had this to say:

“I’m beyond excited to be joining compLexity as they make their push to The International 2016.  I’m convinced this team has the talent and teamwork to be among the top contenders in Seattle, and can’t wait to help them achieve their dream of a TI Championship!”

Please join us in welcoming Nahaz to the team. We hope you to show off his hard work very soon at The International 2016.

compLexity Secures P-1 Athletic Visas for Three Dota Players

July 6th, 2016

Today we are happy to announce that we have secured yet another set of P-1 athletic visas, this time for Swedish Dota players Rasmus ‘Chessie’ Blomdin, Linus ‘Limmp’ Blomdin, and Simon ‘Handsken’ Haag. The three members of coL.Dota are, to our knowledge, the first players to receive P-1 visas for Dota 2. They also join a list of six total compLexity members that have been granted P-1 status over the last three months, adding Dota 2 to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 as games in which we have had visa success.

We are very proud to once more be on the cutting edge of US visa issues and hope to provide inspiration for other organizations and players to pursue the same P-1 visas for their internationally recognized eSports players.

compLexity General Manager Kyle ‘Beef’ Bautista had the following to say:

“Ironically, our Dota players were the first of our recent six to be approved for P-1 status, but the last to actually get their paperwork. Petitions were approved in April, but due to a strenuous travel schedule we were never able to have them return to Sweden long enough to get their visas completed. With the TI6 qualifiers completed they were quickly able to return and get the process finished, and now we will have a solid month of bootcamp before heading to Seattle. We’re proud to have helped the guys become the first Dota 2 players with P-1A internationally recognized athlete status, and I hope that this will allow for more continuous training, more focus on the game, and better results for our fans!”

Simon ‘Handsken’ Haag of coL.Dota had this to say:

“I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to receive this visa as a Dota 2 player. Being recognized as an international athlete is not only a good step for me and my teammates, but also a good step for eSports as a whole. Thanks to Beef, Jeptha (McCown and Evans LLP) and compLexity for making this possible.”

Chessie, Limmp, and Handsken will return to the team’s Florida based training facility this weekend and will next appear at The International 2016 Wildcard in early August.

Thank you for your continued support of coL.Dota and compLexity Gaming!

compLexity Secures P-1 Athletic Visa for Kia “Surreal” Man

June 16th, 2016

Today, we are happy to announce that we have secured yet another P-1 Visa, this time for Kia “Surreal” Man. Kia joins a small group of Counter-Strike players to have ever received a P-1 Athletic Visa, a short list that also includes his teammate Rory “dephh” Jackson.

We are proud that once again our players have been recognized for the passion and dedication they have shown over the years. compLexity became the first organization to secure a work visa for Marcus “zet” Sundström in Counter-Strike nearly 10 years ago, and we are honored to be continuing the tradition of excellence in pro gaming.

“I’m both excited and relieved to announce that Kia “Surreal” Man now has a P1-Athletic visa that will allow him to remain in the United States to continue practicing with the team,” said Matt Dickens, Coach of compLexity Counter-Strike. “This has been a work in progress since Kia was signed to the team and we are happy to know that he will get to continue chasing his dream of playing professional Counter-Strike on TV.”

Kia “Surreal” Man had this to say:

“I’d like to thank the compLexity family for aiding me with the acquisition of my P-1 Athletic Visa. It’s exciting to know that the hard work and dedication that we put into the game is finally being recognized on the government level.”

Thank you for your continued support!

compLexity Welcomes Asmodai to Stream Team

June 1st, 2016

Hearthstone and streaming go together like peanut butter and jelly. The card game of Blizzard was an instant success on Twitch with both entertainment for the casual fans and the ones looking to go above and beyond in the realm of competition. compLexity Gaming has always been about both parts with one of the best competitive rosters throughout the games tenure, but never losing sight of the “entertainment” aspect with members like Noxious and Ryzen. We have always valued both and today we are proud to announce the arrival of the full-package – Christoffer “Asmodai” Stub.

Almost every fan of Hearthstone has heard of the Norwegian streamer Asmodai, as he is a long-time member of the community and a long-time streamer on Twitch. From the beginning he didn’t always value the tryhard grind to the top, but rather the entertainment value and interaction with his viewers. What he still gets is the top legend placements though, creating one of the greater stream synergies in Hearthstone. Creative and entertaining decks, an interactive host, methods of communication beyond just Twitch chat – obviously referring to the Snapchat action – Asmodai has developed a fanbase and a product that everyone should envy.

Now he has decided to join up with compLexity Gaming to take it to the next level and grow his stream even further. The cap-wearing Norwegian will sport the swooshes from now on, joining our Stream team.

“I’ve decided to join compLexity Gaming after being teamless for almost a month now.”, Asmodai said about this new opportunity. “It’s a team which has a lot of players that I respect and is a team I think I can grow with and get the tools and support to achieve my goals.”

Sören Vendsahm, Manager of coL.HS had this to say:

“I am very happy to see Asmo on compLexity Gaming. I’ve been a long-time viewer of his and always enjoyed his general attitude towards the game, bad beats, the community. I don’t think there is anyone out there with a better positive vibe when it comes to streaming. Incredibly happy to have him on board.”

Asmodai will not be in the Hearthstone competitive team though, as he is focusing all his energy on growing his stream and putting on a good show day-in and day-out. Taking a break from streaming for tournaments is currently not on his mind – don’t worry Asmodai fans!

To welcome our newest addition make sure to follow Asmodai on Twitter at coL_Asmodai and Twitch at twitch.tv/asmodaitv to catch the first glimpse of him in compLexity Gaming.

compLexity secures P-1 Athletic Visa for Jevon “Goonjar” Gooljar-Lim

May 24th, 2016

Today, we are happy to announce that we have secured a P-1 professional athlete visa for Jevon “Goonjar” Gooljar-Lim. Jevon is one of the first Call of Duty players in the world to receive a P-1 Visa, reserved for internationally-recognized athletes.

With eSports visas garnering so much attention in recent weeks, we are thrilled that another compLexity gamer has been acknowledged at such an official level. We are also confident that Jevon’s visa is a large step in the right direction for legitimizing competitive gaming; the government issues a maximum of 25,000 P visas annually, making the application and screening process very selective.

“When signing Jevon we knew it was very important to ensure his ability to participate in US LAN events,” said Kyle Bautista, General Manager of compLexity. “We made it a top priority to work with Activision/Blizzard, ESL, and the legal team at McCown & Evans to secure a P-1A visa. With his approval for a P-1A, Goonjar should have no problems entering the country for future events under the compLexity banner. We hope that our efforts will help to pave the way for more Call of Duty players to gain P-1A status and reduce the barrier of international competition.”

Jevon “Goonjar” Gooljar-Lim had this to say:

“I’m thankful to compLexity for helping me become one of the first professional Call of Duty players to be approved for a US P-1A athletic visa. This is something that I could not have achieved without their help and I look forward to being with them for the future.”
