ESWC at E3 and Games Com

May 26th, 2010

Several months ago, we reported that ESWC was listed as a participant in the E3 event that will be taking place on June 15-17th in Los Angeles, California. With no announcement of a US qualifier, it was suspected that the ESWC booth would house a tournament area or stage.

Unfortunately, ESWC has announced that they will be attending the event only to expand their international presence. They have also announced that they will be attending Games Com in Cologne, Germany.

Below is the official release:

We are also going to be at the Games Com in Cologne, Germany, the biggest event in Europe for video games from June 19th to 22nd.

If you wanna visit us, we will be at « Le Pavillon Français » with Ubifrance.

German Ban Lifted

May 23rd, 2010

After 73,000 signatures and heated opposition from citizens, Germany has lifted the ban on violent video games. Germany originally banned the violent games last year which included both the sale and the playing of violent video games, which would include several popular games.

The petition argued that the government should instead be implementing a plan to teach the general public about the PEGI system, the equivelant of the ESRB system in the United States.

Germany has often been on the offensive against games depicting cruel acts on humans or human-like creatures. They even went so far as to ban Silent Hunter 5 due to its use of swastikas, even in historical context at times.

Pacman Turns 30

May 21st, 2010

Early in the 1980’s, a small, round, single-celled super hero was born. His name, Pacman. Today, he turns 30 years old.

Pacman was released by the Namco company in 1980. It was eventually licensed for distribution in the United States by Midway. As an icon of the 80s, Pacman became the most successful coin-operated video game in history. With over 12 sequels or spin-offs, the game has spawned a cult following and is one of the world’s most recognizable figures.

We’d like to officially wish Pacman a very happy 30th birthday and we hope for many more. For those interested in playing the game, Google has changed their logo to display a fully playable version of the game.
