x6tence Loses Two

March 21st, 2010

HLTV.org is reporting that Lucas “recki” Reckerman and David “r1bera” Antón will part ways with x6tence e-sports Club after the Electronic Sports League: Electronic Pro Series Finals, which will be held this upcoming weekend. recki, who joined x6tence back in November from ESC Gaming, has yet to make his first LAN appearance with the team. Below is a statement from recki, who spoke with wasd.se ealier, explaining what the future holds for x6tence  e-sports Club.

We have not talked about the future yet, no-one knows what the new x6tence line-up will be like, Reckerman told wasd.es. That will be thought about after the finals. For what I know, r1bera will stop playing, just like me. In these last few days I wanted to continue with x6 after the EPS, but now I have got a new job and I do not know if I will be able to practice and such, so I think that after EPS I will have to go. It will be a very sad day because I know we are capable of winning titles outside Spain with this team… but I prefer to sort out my social life/real life.

On the other hand, David “r1bera” Antón decided back in October, not to leave x6tence e-sports Club and to be part of the starting five, replacing Alberto “neptuNo” Molinillo temporarily.

x6tence current line-up:

  Antonio “FlipiN” Rivas
 Borja “GuMmY” González
 Christopher “poWer” Rodríguez
 David “r1bera” Antón
Lucas “recki” Reckerman

Team Fortress 2 Contribute

March 18th, 2010

Ealier today, the developers over at Teamfortress.com released a new blog stating that today’s TF2 update includes a bunch of new items and weapons, all of which were made by members of the TF2 community and uploaded to the Contribute site.

The overall quality of submissions we’re receiving is fantastic, by the way, so there’ll be plenty of new additions to follow. The submitters of these items will find nifty unique versions sitting in their backpacks, so they can show everyone their work. This is really exciting for us here at Valve. Starting from our core belief that entertainment products should be services, we’ve tried to increase the set of ways our community can impact our games, and the ways in which we can reward you for it. From the implementation of features requested by players and mapmakers, to unique community items given to valuable community contributors, to the purchasing and shipping of popular maps, to the ARG-style product announcement of Portal 2, we’ve tried to include our players in the ongoing challenge of improving our games and their communities.

This update represents the next step in that process. The line between developers and players is getting very blurry, and we think that’s a great thing.

On the other hand, if you think you got the skills to make good TF2 items and avatars for the next update, then submit your designs to the developers over at Valve. All creators will receive credit for their work and you get a unique version to show off in-game!

In exchange for your silence, we are now accepting submissions for fan-designed TF2 items and avatars, immortalizing you in the Team Fortress 2 pantheon forever while keeping our jobs safe. Pending approval, your item will get added to your backpack, and cycled into the random item drops in-game. Blow up stuff using a weapon you created! Kill an enemy, then let him know he died in a hat you designed! Weapons, hats, avatars — designed by you, used by the entire TF2 community.

For more information on the requirements for the TF2 Style guidelines visit the Tips+Tricks and Contribute pages.

WoW Competition Reshuffled

WoW Competition Reshuffled

by Sascha “Yiska” Heinisch

Once again, with the introduction of season 8 gear on the upcoming Blizzard TR, the WoW meta game is changing and teams will have to adapt. As season 8 gear is also the gear currently used on live servers, the live teams of the top competitors are a good source to determine how well their comp still does or if their comps were even changed at all. Let’s analyze some SK100 data and put it in perspective:

At the top of the 3 vs 3 comps we see Paladin/Shaman/Hunter, a comp that we are quite familiar with here at compLexity as coL.Black plays it. Since Paladins and Shamans are hybrids, we various possible comps coming out of this trinity.

Resto Shaman/Hunter/Ret
 Holy Pala/Hunter/Elemental Shaman
 Beast Cleave
 Double Heal Hunter

The fact of the matter is, even though this class combination is at 11%, very few play Beast Cleave as far as the 3v3 bracket goes. The highest rated Beast Cleave in the world at the moment is led by Twixz and they are sitting 4th in the strongest battle group in North America,– BG9. In conclusion, the comp really doesn’t look too bad and with the possibilities that only this class combination offers, things are looking decent come new TR.

At an 8% representation, we see both Rogue/Mage/Priest and Rogue/Lock/Shaman, the comps that have been around for a while now and as Cebit proved, are both capable of winning tournaments. In season 8 gear, both comps look strong while RLS probably got more out of the gear change than RMP did. The damage a Warlock and a Rogue can dish out with the current season gear is scary, especially for Melee Cleave. This is especially important as RLS had a tendency to lose against these Melee Cleave comps such as TSG, as it was hard for them to apply hard pressure with the low amount of spell damage. Looking over at coL.Red’s live team in which they play pretty much every composition that could remotely work with the classes they have despite RMP, there is definitely a trend of quitting RMP and a switch to other strong comps such as RLS. Some people believe that Priests are currently too weak on live servers as their ability to survive even a single Warrior is just not there at the moment. Blizzard seemed to realize the strength of the Warrior class and we have read that they allow Bladestorm to be disarmed. This would not only be a nerf to Warriors, but also a buff to RMP or any comp with a Rogue/Hunter, as disarming will be a huge advantage.

While the significance of SK100 data is arguable, there are some Arena experts who expect a couple of comps to do very well on tournament realms. One of them is WLD, a comp that already dominated the tournament scene in “The Burning Crusade”. Currently, a guy that has been around for just as long is Hoodrych. Before they left the team, they were the #1 rated team in the world while also being on BG9. Over in Europe, the quality Warlocks, namely Draintrain and Inflame acknowledge the strength of the comp and are looking for new team mates to be able to play this comp competitively. For Inflame especially, it should feel like a home coming, as this comp gave him so much fame and cash back in TBC.

Wizard Cleaves are of course also a lot better on live than they are in season 5 gear. The only current sponsored team with that composition is of course EG, but they currently don’t have a team on live servers. Moreover, their comp isn’t doing too well on the SK100 and it remains to be seen if this team will stick to their comp after the huge success of Cebit without Pookz. All of these players now know how to win and the chances of going all the way with their comp without learning from other classes look slim.

Now, on to Double Heal, the strongest probably being Warrior/Priest/Paladin could be back, bringing us the unbearably long mirror matches. There is an easy explanation why these comps are relatively popular: The margin of error you can allow while still being successful is higher than most other comps and on top of that, it’s a lot less frustrating as with two healers, the chances of seeing someone dying within a blanket silence are close to zero. Looking back at the last TR, Holyplay did qualify but Rgostic didn’t show up in Germany, leaving his team mates high and dry. Luckily, the Shaman of the team later got picked up by a sponsored team and he goes by the name of Tenderloin.

In my books, the biggest losers of the gear upgrade are melee cleaves. While they can dish out stupid amount of damage, they are always very vulnerable to CC and damaging themselves and the SK100 data supports this argument. While I’m sure there will be some quality TSG teams on the TRs and some might even make it into the top 8, they won’t become a flavor of the month comp again.

Speaking of the TR– If you are a WoW fan, spending the $20 on the TR sign ups are really worth it. Not only will your favorite players be on there, but it’s generally a fun experience. You get to play every character at max level with decent gear and Blizzard will most likely even throw you a bone with the in-game pets they hand out to the top 1000. Even though you might not like Arena, it’s probably still worth investing these few dollars just for the experience. It isn’t around all year, so update your account once it’s up.

CAL Comeback?

March 16th, 2010

Update – 03/16/2010 12:58AM : TheCPL.com has also been updated with its own counter, set for May 1st, 2010, which is also seems to be the date that the CPL and Dreamhack will team up to host a large gaming tournament at the Swedish Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo.

It has come to our attention that the Cyberathlete Amateur League has recentely modified their site to include a count-down timer. With the semi-recent aquisition of the CPL still looming, many have wondered what would happen, if anything, of CAL.

We have been unable to get an official response from the contact email provided, however the countdown timer is set for 6/22/2010 at 9:00 AM. Below is a screenshot of the current CAL site.

We will keep you informed of any updates or changes to the website, or any response from the CPL.

HeatoN Counter-Strike Tips & Tricks Episode 7

March 15th, 2010

HeatoN Tips & Tricks – Episode 7 – Tactics

QPAD, the Swedish company famed for its premium gaming gear, today announced the release of episode 7 in the series of Tips & Tricks starring Emil “HeatoN” Christenssen. The latest episode is called – HeatoN Counter Strike Tips & Tricks – Tactics.

Tactics

For a team to be successful in this day and age it requires a solid strategy going in to each round of play. No matter how good a strategy is without tactical precision it is destined to fail. A well placed and perfectly timed flash bang or grenade can be the difference in a win or a loss. This tactical precision can be much easier to accomplish with the proper mouse, mousepad and headset. Practice is always a major factor in performance but without the proper gear tactical precision can be much more difficult to achieve.

HeatoN Tips & Tricks

The “HeatoN Counter-Strike Tips & Tricks” series is targeting gamers who like to know the secrets behind HeatoN’s success and for gamers who like to improve their skill in Counter-Strike. This is the final episode of season one. TF2 Developers Answer Mac FAQ

March 9th, 2010

Yesterday, Valve announced that Steam and all Source engine games will be coming to Mac this April. Many fans have been emailing Valve asking questions like if it is necessary to buy another version of TF2 if you own a Mac (or vice versa).

Just a few minutes ago, the TF2 developers over at Valve released a blog at Teamfortress.com to answer some of the FAQ’s that TF2 fans have been emailing in for the past twenty-four hours. Below is the official blog release:

Yesterday, we announced that Steam and all our Source engine games will be coming to the Mac. Sound too good to be true? Well, guess what: It is true! There are no catches! Sometimes life actually works like that. The bad news is that we’ve just truth bombed your hard-earned lie detector back to the stone age, and you’ll probably lose all your money to the next international lottery scam that sneaks through your spam filter. Still, Steam on the Mac! Since we’re getting a lot of email asking the same basic questions, we figured we’d just answer them here:

Q: I own TF2 on the PC. Do I have to buy it again on the Mac?
A: No. If you own TF2 on the PC, you own TF2 on the Mac (and vice versa). You don’t have to buy the game twice. In addition, the Steam Cloud will automatically propagate your configuration settings and custom sprays to your Mac for you.

Q: Is it just some crappy emulated version of TF2?
A: No! Also: How dare you! Mac users aren’t getting a crappy emulated version of the game. TF2 will run natively on OSX, like an actual big boy game for adults.

Q: Hmm, that all sounds pretty good. But I’ll bet I can’t play with my friends who own Macs if I’m on my PC.
A: Mac and PC users will all play together, on the same servers. We’re not creating two separate universes. We’re all going to be one big, happy family with guns locked in a bloody, never-ending struggle for cap points.
